Cabinets, Trim & Decks

Revive cabinets, finish trim and millwork, restore outdoor decks and pressure wash, all from the crew that paints your walls.

Chapter 01

Revive the cabinets you already own

"Revive Cabinets" is printed on the side of UBG's van, and it describes the job well. Good cabinet boxes are solid wood and good joinery. What looks tired is the finish: worn edges, grease film, a colour from another decade.

Refinishing is a sequence. The doors and frames are cleaned, the old surface is degloss-prepped so new coats can grip, then primed and finished. Skipping the cleaning or the prep is how a cabinet job starts peeling at the handles within a season.

It is also often the cheaper road. Cheri Donnelly, whose 1928 kitchen was renovated instead of replaced, wrote that she "saved money by not ripping out my whole kitchen".

Trim, millwork and stain

Trim and millwork are where a room is read up close: baseboards, casings, window returns, mantels, rails. The van lists "Trim / Millwork" as its own service, because it takes different tools and patience than painting a flat wall.

Stain and clear coat are a second craft again. UBG's gallery captions one project "Custom Bunk Beds Painted, Stained, and Clear Coated": sage-green painted bunks with natural timber posts and a stair, three finishes on one built-in. The gallery also shows an open stair with a timber cap rail and black steel balusters, the kind of trim where the finish decides whether the wood looks done.

Jean Smith put the standard in her own words: "Everything was sealed, painted, stained with attention to detail."

Chapter 03

Decks and pressure washing

Decks take the weather all year, so the order of work matters: wash, let it dry, repair, then stain or seal.

"Restoration of Outdoor Decks" and "Pressure Washing" sit next to each other on the van for a reason. Washing lifts the dirt, mildew and loose finish that would otherwise sit under the new coat. A deck coated over dirt looks fine for a few weeks and then lets go.

The same logic governs the siding and fences. Jean Smith noted that "The prep work was done well so that the paint will last." Brent Daily called it "careful and thorough prep work". When pressure washing comes first, everything after it has something clean to hold on to.
